I remember deluge being great and I used it on kde but at some point it started using 100% CPU. That's when I switched to ktorrent but still missing the server/client architecture and the simple handling a little.

Brasero best application? Personally I don't think so. It lacks the most elementary features such as a fill% bar to show the % usage of the disc while you are filling the compil. It doesn't order the files by name. Brasero is so much of a joke I had to buy Nero Linux. Was using K3B for a while but suddendly I had plenty of troubles. May be K3b has now improved but I no longer need it.

I agree, there are players like VLC, SMPlayer etc, but they're using Qt. Could you please give an example from the tons of players that actually meets the requirements for this article? (being GTK-based)

Ummm sorry but I don't agree with this list. Shotwell is much better than F-Spot and there are TONS of movie players that are better than Totem, which has got to be the worst movie player of them all. Also it would have been nice to see ALTERNATIVES to Ubuntu's default applications. Because there's so many default applications this turns more in to a "fanboy" post than anything of real value.

To answer both of you: I was thinking that Mono will be flamed in the moment I put up Banshee. That doesn't mean it still isn't a very good player. The exact same thing happens with Java, there are a lot of good applications written in Java and working perfectly with Open JRE (yeah I know it's slower). Now I'm not familiar with legal issues and I'm really an advocate for open-source software (which both Shotwell and F-Spot are), and as long as they're open-source, GPL licensed, why complain about the fact that they are implemented supported some proprietary programming language? Need I start a discussion which would only bring up further off-topic comments, like "why do open-source developers even make Windows versions for their applications?" Why can Ubuntu be installed from within Windows, why Firefox is also available for that *proprietary* crap? Again, I am a Linux and GNU advocate, but to just say *no* without actually thinking a bit is not particularly smart.

Oz123, no, they're are not GNOME (how many of them are from the GNOME environment?), they are blending well in GNOME being GTK-based.

And nomono: thanks for the suggestions, but I think F-Spot deserves its place here, and same for Tomboy. Regarding GNOTE, I will have to try it though, never heard of it.
